About this Substack
Thank you for being here.
This Substack is a place for reflections on grief, bereavement, funeral care, death literacy, and the systems that support families after a death.
I started writing because death is something we all encounter, but it is still something many people feel unsure how to talk about. Families are often expected to make decisions, understand processes, ask questions, and navigate unfamiliar services at a time when they may feel least prepared to do so.
My hope is that these reflections help make some of that feel a little less hidden.
Some posts are practical.
Some are personal.
Some reflect on funeral practice, bereavement support, faith, ritual, public understanding, or the quieter parts of grief that do not always fit neatly into public conversations.
The thread running through them is simple: bereavement should not feel like a maze people are left to walk through alone.
My writing is shaped by lived experience, professional practice, academic study, and ongoing work in bereavement and funeral care. I have worked across child bereavement, NHS bereavement processes, funeral arranging, community engagement, and religious and cultural studies of death. I am also completing an MA dissertation exploring the professional contribution of funeral practitioners.
Alongside this Substack, I am developing The Bereavement Bridge, a practical information resource designed to help people better understand the journey that follows a death, and the people and services they may meet along the way.

A note on how I write…
These reflections begin with my own ideas, experience, research, reading, conversations, and professional interests.
I sometimes use AI tools to help organise ideas, shape drafts, test wording, and edit for clarity. I use them as a writing support, not as a replacement for human judgement.
The themes, lived experience, professional perspective, ethical decisions, and final words I choose to publish remain my own.
My aim is always to write with care, honesty, and respect for the people and experiences these reflections touch on.
Thank you for reading, following, sharing, questioning, and being part of this developing conversation.
